O Banquete

This painting represents the moment of pleasure and the sensations of the Cyclops after having tasted the rich delicacy of wine, it looks like a stomach dance of several Cyclops full of liquor. This painting is a little different from the others, as if it were unfinished, as the artist wanted to highlight the play of textures that the tannins created naturally.

Rocha Impelindo

Rocha Impelindo

“Rock pushing” as the translation in english, narrates the moment when Polyphemus throws a stone at Ulysses, who is already in the sea, this stone is thrown by the monster with the intention of attacking, but what ends up happening is that it helps the hero to meet the rest of the ships and companions, to continue their journey.

In this painting, we can appreciate all the tension pushing us towards the right side, whether through the bulging eyes that seem to look in the direction of a possible head almost like an arrow – a sea animal?, the ship where Ulysses and the rest of the survivors are going? – how this same shape leans towards this end of the picture. We would say that the escape is completed by the lack of hospitality.

Eléa Candente

Èlea is olive tree in ancient Greek. This work is about the passage in which Odysseus and his companions prepare the weapon to blind Polyphemus, after having gotten him drunk. In this painting, Ulysses is at the bottom of the painting, highlighting his look at Polyphemus and the thought that comes out of the central part of his head, that is, the rational one. It is worth highlighting Oliveira’s two saffron bars, which represent the hero’s defense against the monster.

A Fúria do Neptuno

The representation of Neptune’s fury against Ulysses, motivated by Polyphemus’s desperate request and Telemus’s prophecy, offers a rich field for analysis. The image of an enraged sea god, unleashing his power over the seas and sending sea monsters to torment Odysseus, evokes powerful emotions and questions.

A Gesta de Olissipo

“The gesture of Olissipo”, represents the city of Lisbon, so named in Roman times, but which has its origins in one of Ulysses’ journeys when he arrived in Ophiusa, an adventure that gave rise to the seven/eight hills of the capital, which rise from the city itself. queen- half-serpent, half-woman- Ophiussa’s pursuit of Ulysses when she failed to reach him, her multiple serpent arms became the city’s hills, an evocation of this founding myth. Ilhas Urânicas

“Uranic Islands”, in this painting represents the moment in which the Cyclops Brontes frees himself from the land Gaia, the prison to which Uranus had subjected his children. The work is divided into two large areas, in the lower part Gaia is represented, as an icon of the cage, here once again the earth is represented as a political map, managing to represent the nomadic movement with these textures and in the upper part is the moment in which Brontes frees himself from his mother, making a call to attention in the central circle, a symbol of the union between the Cyclops and his mother.
