The Look into the Cave
This title shifts the focus of the traditional narrative and focuses on the creature’s point of view. Instead of a simple description of the facts, it becomes a portrait of the monster. The eye is the only part of the creature you see, and it is the element that dominates the scene. This eye is the center of all action, and its gaze is what decides the fate of the sailors.
The narrative becomes a chronicle of horror, and the viewer becomes yet another victim of the creature’s brutality. The elements of the painting—the disappearing earth and the explosion—are the remnants of the battle, and the texture of the painting evokes the brutality of the attack.
